What is the Body Box Plethysmograph Test?
Body Plethysmography is a lung function test to see how well your lungs are working. The test shows how much air your lungs can hold after a deep breath and how much air is left in your lungs after you exhale as much as possible. This test shows your physician how well your lungs are working.
Why is the Body Box Plethysmograph Test Used?
This test is used to see how well your lungs are working compared to the average or compared to your last test to see how well you are doing. This can show if there are substances in your home or work that are causing changes in your lungs.
How To Prepare for the Body Box Plethysmograph Test
To prepare for this test you should not smoke an hour before your test, drink alcohol four hours before the test, eat a large meal within 2 hours of the test, or exercise within 30 minutes of the test. You should wear clothing that allows you to breathe easy. During the test, you will wear a nose clip and be told to breathe through the mouthpiece.
